Brenda Skidmore's Health Tips
Did you know that the Earth's fresh water supply is under stress? Our supply of fresh, clean water is rapidly being depleted by a number of reasons. It is becoming more important than ever to begin preserving, and protect it now. Water conservation may soon become a mandatory issue, whether you think about it or not, for our future survival. The human species is the only, supposedly intelligent, life form here that seems to take the limited amount of our clean water for granted, especially if you live where water is plentiful. Worldwide, however, it is a huge problem, and not just in desert climates.
Increasing human population density and advancing industry are the two biggest threats to everyone's clean fresh water supplies. In other words, we are our own worst enemy. We all have to share this same precious resource, with one another, while we are here. All of us need to learn how to conserve and eliminate the wasting of clean water supplies whenever possible.
After all, we all need the valuable natural resources (water being the main one)that was given to us to live more abundantly while we are here. We need this planet to survive, not the other way around. This planet does not need us. If we don't wake up real soon, we will have wiped ourselves out of existence, and planet Earth will still be here. She will be just fine too, because once we are out of the picture, things will balance themselves out once again.
For example, in Santa Fe, New Mexico, a city with limited yearly rainfall amounts, encourages its residents to conserve by using native vegetation in yards and gardens to reduce the need for watering. The city also offers rebates on items such as rain barrels and household appliances like dishwashers, clothes washers, and toilets that use less water. Sometimes, cities have to restrict or ban lawn-watering, car washing, and other low priority stuff. Changes must be implemented, so that everyone has enough clean water for dire necessities.
So far, various attempts to find a way to convert ocean water into fresh water has been unsuccessful. In most cases it is just too costly to be feasible. Even if it was economical to do, where are you going to put all of that salt? Dumping it back into the ocean or piling it up on the ground, you will be creating oversalinated areas that could not sustain life.
Our kids are being brought up in the age of conservation and global warming. They are also learning to be more aware of their health and physical activity issues. As a parent, grandparent, or mentor they look up to, if you practice living green, eat right, and stay physically active they are going to get it.
In fact, when it comes to understanding how to be a good steward of the Earth, or taking good care of their bodies, I don't know if it's going to be our generation pushing the kids, or the kids pushing us.
My family does more than some, and less than others when it comes to these things. The problem with getting everyone to work together on these issues is, too many people feel afraid by the idea of living green, or living healthier. Some feel like you have to do it all or nothing. This is what paralyzes people. It is thought patterns like these, that are nothing more than illusions.
Hey, we all learn best by having an example to model our behavior by. It's a process you gradually learn until it becomes second nature to you. When you watch someone else eating and drinking to improve their health, or conserving water or electricity use, you start to think maybe that's not very hard to do either. You start out by taking really small steps and they just get bigger with time. Suddenly, you'll have a light bulb moment when you realize, you're doing it too!
